—————————————————————-

General Abstract & Outline Submission Guidelines

These instructions relate to all categories of abstracts and outlines for submission. Please note that we are encouraging any person with professional experience, wisdom or science related to the health and wellbeing of performing artists to present at the conference.

  • To ensure blinded review, do not include any information that could identify you in the abstract / outline section of the submission templates. That is:
no presenter/author names or affiliations. Please also remove any references that could identify the presenter by replacing with XXXX (e.g. the Jane Smith School of Dance would become the XXXX School of Dance).
  • Please include the names and affiliations of all authors, and provide the name and contact information for the author who intends to present the research at the conference, if invited.
  • All original research that involves human participants must have institutional human research ethics committee approval, and must state as such in the abstract submission. Any research submissions that do not state that they have appropriate ethics approval will not be accepted to present.
  • Please keep a copy of your abstract/outline as a Word (or other) document to safeguard against loss of work in the case of any technical problems with the online submissions.
  • You must use the headings provided in the relevant template for your proposed presentation.
  • Please note that the biography will only be published if your submission is accepted for presentation.
  • If your abstract/outline is accepted for presentation at the conference, you will be required to register for the event in order to present your work.
  • Abstract/outline submissions close 11.59pm AEST on Sunday 9 June, 2024. Corresponding authors will be notified of the outcome of their submission in approximately 6 weeks of this deadline.

Abstract/Outline Categories and Submission Portal

Practitioner Wisdom
Teachers, coaches, educators, rehearsal directors, physicians and clinicians can gather profound insights into the psychological and physiological problems faced by performers. This wisdom, which is often supported by education and research, can be instructive to other performing arts practitioners. The Practitioner Wisdom category of presentations offers those with an extensive history of working with performing artists an opportunity to share insights based on their personal experiential knowledge. Please note that  all submissions need to comply with jurisdiction privacy laws when using names, images or videos of other people. Presentations will be 20 minutes in duration including 5 minutes for Q&A.

Interventional and Descriptive Research
This includes any original research that studies the effect of any intervention to improve the health, wellbeing and performance of performing artists. These include but are not limited to surgical, pharmaceutical, physical and psychological interventions. Descriptive studies include normative, epidemiological, and correlation studies, as well as non-intervention case studies and qualitative studies. Please note that all original research that involves human participants must have institutional human research ethics committee approval, and must state as such in the abstract submission. Any submissions that do not state that they have appropriate ethics approval will not be accepted to present. Presentations will be 20 minutes in duration including 5 minutes for Q&A.

Literature Reviews/Conceptual Analysis
This includes systematic, narrative and scoping reviews of the literature relevant to the health, wellbeing and performance of performing artists. It is important to translate the results of the review/analysis to the practice of performing arts practitioners. Presentations will be 20 minutes in duration including 5 minutes for Q&A.

Workshops/Movement Sessions
These sessions should be interactive in format. They should offer participants practical experience and insight into clinical and training strategies that support the health, wellbeing and performance of performing artists. Presentations will be 40 minutes in duration including Q&A.
